Study Concludes Women Cry More Than Men
A study out of Germany suggests that women tend to cry more than men:
German experts provided confirmation today: women cry more often than men, for longer – and in a more dramatic fashion.
According to the German society of Ophthalmology, which has collated different scientific studies on the phenomenon, women shed tears on average between 30 and 64 times a year and men six to 17 times.
Men tend to cry for between two and four minutes, but for females sessions last around six minutes.
And weeping turns into full-blown sobbing for women in 65 per cent of cases, compared to just six per cent for males.
What a startling revelation.
I understand the reasons why women cry, I tend to be a pretty open and understanding fella. Crying is like the body’s natural release, it can often times be cathartic. It’s almost as if women need to cry, it’s as if crying is a woman’s mechanism for growth and recovery in a way. So ya, I totally get it. But having said that, when it comes time for a woman to cry, to completely break down and start laying out everything from her heart and soul, must they do it when it’s either overtime in the hockey game, or right before I go to sleep? Why can’t it be when I’m chopping wood, or power-washing the gutters?
I hear you, I feel for you, I know what you’re saying. But is it possible you can do it quieter, and maybe away from the television?

I think women cry mainly due to guilt at how little they appreciate us MEN, and how rarely they give us the passionate loving we all richly deserve.

I don’t cry much any more. I used to cry when I was a kid, and my Dad gave me a sound thrashing, which I always deserved. If you knew my dad, you’d know it hurt.
Sometimes, in my old age, a particular scene in a movie will get me choked up and misty-eyed,like the opening scene in “Saving Private Ryan”,or the ending of “Schindler’s List”, but not much other than that.
Nope, except for the emotional guys who cry when their favourite sports team loses,we men don’t boo-hoo much.I’ve heard Toronto Maple Leafs fans cry whenever they lose, but I don’t believe it as there aren’t that many tears in a person.
Basically,men are stoic under duress, and we leave the women to bawl their eyes out, and we are SO good at providing comfort to the dear ladies afterward.
God,you ladies are lucky to have us!

btw, how come women cry when they’re sad,or happy?
This is really confusing. When I return home after a long stay away, is the wife teary eyed because she missed me, or is it that the postman will only be able to deliver mail for the next while?

dmorris, you haven’t figured it out yet? They cry to get what they want. So she’s really trying to make you forget that you even have a postman!
What is this staistic of men crying at the least six times a year? Are you serious?

My male patients cry a lot more than the female ones. I assume this is because men are sissies about medical stuff, or perhaps because of the medical establishments proclivity to stick things in the male urethra. Even if you are the manliest of men, us nurses can force a tear out of you.
As for me, I’m not much for the crying. It wrecks my eye makeup and the snotsicles are really unattractive. They should have added to this that nurses cry less than either men or women. Thats because we’re touhg jaded folk.
