Queen Elizabeth Will Outlast Us All Week

I love this picture. I always get a laugh at seeing Ronald Reagan chuckling it up over something the Queen said.

What was Ronnie laughing so hard at, you ask? Well, let me tells ya…

It was 1983 and the Reagan’s were hosting a state dinner in San Francisco. The Queen was saying that she knew the Puritans brought a lot of customs over to the new world from England, but since she’d been slogging around in the rain in California, (rain and rain and rain), she’d had no idea they also brought over the rotten weather.

And Ronnie busted a gut.

A great picture. God save the Queen.

God, I miss Reagan. If I had had my way, #1 son would have been named “Ronald Reagan Reeves.” But, The Mrs. was in charge of such things, and said that the RRR thing didn’t work.

Besides, Reagan had not been elected yet (this was in Sept. 1980), and she said, “What if he loses? How will we ever explain to our son that he was named after a B movie actor?”

I shoulda put my foot down! Sigh…

Well, I hate to agree with the wife, Andy, but she was right on that name, RRR. The lad probably would’ve taken a hell of a lot of flack if he was in school in the 80’s.

Wives are often the sane voice when it comes to naming babies, my Dad wanted to name me Maurice, after the famous hockey player,Maurice “Rocket” Richard,so I would have had to go through life as Maurice Morris. I wouldn’t have minded if he’d wanted “Rocket” as kids love names like that, but the other,I probably woulda turned into a serial killer or something.

So they named me after my Uncle Don.

I wanted to name Kate, Zelda, but my wife wouldn’t hear of it! I always thought Zelda was a cool name.

She also named the two boys, and I was allowed NO input. maybe it was for the best.

Apparently the Mayor’s Dad wanted to name him Trigger Champion after his two favourite cowboy stars’ horses, but again the Mrs. prevailed. Dunno if I could vote for a Mayor with handles like that, so it all turned out for the better.

btw, what DID your wife finally name the boy?

    “Sue”

… because she wanted a lawyer in the family.

Heh! Good one J.M.! dmorris, she named him “William Dean Reeves,” after his two grandfathers. My Daddy is William, and hers was Dean. Good choice. He is as fine a man at 29 as either of them were…a hero in my book.

    Zelda? Sheesh…

btw: My Daddy’s first name is William, but he’s always gone by the short of his middle name, Donald. You guessed it, “Don.”

  6. dmorris Says:

Yep, she WAS right, those are two first rate names.

My dad’s name was Albert, but he always hated that so was always called “Bob”. I was in eighth grade before I found out his real name.

Say hi to “Don” for me.

  7. J.M. Heinrichs Says:

Someone wrote a book on him?
    “Quiet Flows The Don”.

    Cheers
