Clint Malarchuk Shoots Himself In The Face

In 1989, Clint Malarchuk, goaltender for the Buffalo Sabres, came close to death, as he had his jugular vein accidentally severed by a skate during a game against St. Louis (gruesome YouTube video here). It was a miracle Malarchuk survived, but it seems his bad fortune returned yesterday, as he had a hunting accident and nearly shot his face off.

According to a report in The Record Courier of Nevada, Malarchuk accidentally shot himself in the chin with a .22-calibre rifle on Tuesday.

Malarchuk’s wife reported the shooting. When officers arrived at the family’s residence, the former goaltender was reportedly bleeding profusely from the mouth and chin, and initially refused treatment from paramedics. Malarchuk was transported to a medical facility nearby, where reports indicate he continued to be uncooperative with medical staff. He was later taken by helicopter to Renown Regional Medical Center in Nevada.

Reports say that Malarchuk will be fine, thank goodness.

I think as a precaution though, the Red Cross should just follow this guy around with a bucket from now on. Good thing Clint was hunting with a .22 and not a real rifle or this story would have a lot sadder than what it already is.

Goalies…tough as nails

    Hunting accident?…okey dokey then.

I had always heard about his neck injury but never saw the film. Horrifying.

How do you “accidentally” shoot yourself in the face with a rifle? You’d think it’s dimensions would make it difficult to shoot one’s self in the face, unless you forget which end is which…
