Why Aren’t The Japanese Looting?
Ed West, reporter for the Telegraph asks an interesting question – Why is there no looting in Japan?
West never really does come to a conclusion, but does point out that there was some looting in Britain in 2007 during the floods in the west country where some people stole….wait for it….water (egad), there was some looting in Chile after the earthquake last year; and after Katrina there was widespread looting. Viewed through that perspective, I suppose everyone BUT the Japanese loot. The Brits (white, I suppose) are looters, Chileans (Spanish-like) are looters, and the peoples from New Orleans (possibly black) are looters.
Looting is looting, I guess Ed is saying. The Brits stole water, the Chileans stole water and food, and the residents of New Orleans stole just the bare neccesities in order to stay alive. Although what was looted was different in one out of those three examples, I suppose Ed is looking for confirmation that it doesn’t matter what skin tone you have, EVERYONE is a looter after a disaster. Or something like that.
Except for the Japanese.
Mind you, I’m wondering how many people were raped and shot to death after the flooding in west country or the quake in Chile last year? Probably the same amount of people that were raped and shot to death in New Orleans after Katrina. After all, that type of behaviour has nothing to do with skin type. Just like looting.
I guess if we have to draw any conclusions from Ed’s inconclusive conclusions, it’s that whether you steal a bottle of water to stay alive or whether you steal a big screen tv then rape your neighbour, a looter is a looter and we are all the same regardless of skin colour.
Except for the Japanese.

I can’t comment on England’s problems except perhaps for their persistent lack of standing in the international beauty contests, where they fail like few other countries.
The Chileans had announced at one point that looters will be dealt with, with whatever force was necessary. So that stopped the looting pronto and about 300 arrests were made, where almost all of them were later given suspended sentences as none of them had prior convictions.
I couldn’t find any reports of rapes / murder in Chile, which is kind of reassuring.
But Katrina really brought out the worst in *some* people, careers have been made from Katrina, as they will from the Haiti event, where they had lynch mobs of people that I’m not certain were just looking to stop the looting, but had some aspect of blood lust in them, well who can blame them? They were colonized by the french.
Did any of the Katrina looters have prior convictions? hmmmm.
The eye opener for anyone looking to loot in Japan, is that they may fear that the goods looted, may be contaminated / radioactive. So only a really quick sale will do, and people have been evacuated for miles around, and I’m guessing that it’s difficult to carry a 60 inch wide screen for more than one mile. It’s early days in this disaster, the stores have been emptied and normal supply lines have broken down. I’m thinking it may be a good example to those that study what happens in these events, when it’s not in an already messed up country.
I bet Naomi Klein has already got a few chapters written for her next effort, especially now that the USS Reagan group is helping out.
It’s a well studied area of history to read of what the Japanese did to the Chinese in the first half of the last century, so maybe they’re just being polite to their own neighbors, so far.
hmmmm, we’ll see.

There is no looting in Japan because there is no diversity.
In Toronto, there will be looting. There is looting even before the disaster.

You know: those amazing little cells that determine what we look like and what diseases we get? They can’t possibly determine how we act as well. Cuz that would be crazy talk.

Just a thought…wouldn’t plasma TV cooked by radiation be fusion reactors? I think we should loot them all now.
