And The Newest Mitchievillian Is…
Weighing in at a whopping 6 lb 14 oz and 20″ long, Clare Abby (Miss Mayor) was introduced into this world at 11:33 pm, December 31. She is healthy, alert, and an absolutely beautiful baby girl.
TLDG is doing great, she was such a trooper, it’s hard to put words into how I feel about her right now, she was just so incredible.
What’s that? You didn’t know we were expecting a baby? Oh right, I suppose I have a little ’splainin’ to do…
I honestly had every intention on telling my constituents that TLDG and I were expecting a baby, but I was going to do it a few weeks before the baby was expected to be delivered. As you have noticed, not everything in The Mayor’s life as of late has gone as planned. I was going to have a Name the Baby game as well as a few other fun games scheduled around TLDG’s delivery of January 20th, but as I said, not everything has gone to plan lately.
I know you have become accustomed to tall tales from me as of late (like the last four years or so), well, you might want to grab a coffee and smoke for this one. Ya, this is another doozy.
About a week before Christmas, TLDG became a little sick. Mostly, she starting itching like the dickens. Her legs and feet were on fire, she couldn’t stop scratching. She went to the doctor, who in fine socialized medicine form, told her, in his own words, “It’s probably nothing.” That did not sit well with TLDG, she knew something was wrong, so she went internet exploring to find out what it was. Now I’m not sure how to spell this, but I believe it’s coliosis. Coliosis is a liver problem, it can be fatal to baby and mother. It became so painful and harrowing for her that her father called his doctor last Sunday, the day I got out of hospital for my busted appendix. The doctor made a few calls and got her an appointment for the next day for some blood work.
We both went in the next morning at 11 and TLDG gave her blood. That evening around 10, the doctor called us to say that Janis was indeed correct, she had coliosis. The two main things they were looking for were over 6x higher than what is considered normal, TLDG was to get to the hosptial in the morning for a new battery of tests. Side note—->As a matter of fact, only 1/2000 pregnant women get this, and the doctor couldn’t believe TLDG correctly diagnosed herself.
That night it snowed. When we woke up we had a foot of snow on our driveway. TLDG was 36 weeks pregnant, I could hardly stand up, but when TLDG went to have a shower, I cowboyed-up and went outside and shoveled us out. We got to the hospital, TLDG gave more blood, and then we waited. The tests came back and this time they were a real mess. What was already 6x too high had doubled over night. The doctor, who was a fill-in because it’s Christmas season and it’s impossible to find decent care around the holidays, didn’t seem too worried. He said we might have to have the baby next week, but for now it’s good to monitor and wait. He suggested more blood work the next day and to see TLDG’s regular doctor who was actually going to be in.
Rinse and repeat. The next day TLDG gives more blood and the tests came back messy once again. That was at 12 pm. At 2, the doctor orders more tests and when they came back at three he said that now would be a good time to have the baby. The more he thought about it, the more it made sense. We said, have the baby this weekend, tomorrow? He said, no, I want this baby out of you now.
At 4 pm, TLDG was induced. At 11:33, Clare was born. At 11:34, The Mayor cried.
As I mentioned, mother and baby are doing well. TLDG will be in hospital for the next few days having various tests done, but the saving grace is that after having a baby, coliosis is known to just disappear. That certainly is my prayer.
You know me by now, I’m not a mushy guy. But I need to say that I have never been so proud of someone in my life as I was of TLDG over this last week. She is such an incredibly strong, determined and brilliant woman. She fought every step of the way, questioning the doctors, asking all the right questions, putting up with nonsense and really fighting for our baby to make sure everything that was done was done up to snuff. There is no one on the world like TLDG, and I thank the Lord that he blessed me with her. She is truly magnificent.
As I mentioned, the baby’s name is Clare, as for the middle name, well, that could easily change by tomorrow. We got to the hospital thinking we were only there for tests and that we still had time to pick out a name, or for that matter, get The Manor ready, paint the baby’s room, buy baby clothes, get well from our illnesses. But that’s just a small bump in the road at this point. All is good, our baby is phenomenal.
Sorry for the crappy pics you see in front of you, they were snapped from my IPhone, I didn’t have my camera with me.
There are a ton of other things to tell you, but for now I’m going to have a sleep. I’m still wired on various medicines and such, I’m stooped over like a troll, but TLDG is getting better, and we have a beautiful new baby. Thank you Lord for your many blessings.

Congratulations. Children are a wonderful gift. I’m so glad your wife is persistent enough to have caught the Coliosis when she did. The first year is such a great experience with a baby, no matter what anyone says.

Wow, I’m shocked! And I’m happy for you both.
If you need anyone to adopt her out of that backward country you live in, just say the word.

What a way to usher in the new year. Congratulations, Mr. Mayor.

Lose and appendix, gain a daughter. I’d say that’s a fair trade-off–at least until she becomes old enough to drive and starts bringing home skeezy boyfriends.
Congratulations, Mayor!

Congrats Mayor. She looks beautiful. Clare is such a wonderful name. So sweet of you to name her after me. You and TLDG must be so proud. It goes without saying that you are one lucky Mayor.

All the best to you !!

We’ll have to create a cabinet post for her promptly!
So you donated an appendix and picked up a baby girl. A good deal indeed.

Congratulations Mayor! I can see the beautiful little girls name, but no where did you mention what you’re naming the appendix…

Congratulations TLDG and Mayor!
January 3rd, 2009 at 10:00 am
Congratulations, you two. With intellegent parents watching out for the kid, the Canadian health care system has a much reduced chance of bungling. God bless.

Congrats, if she has half the constitution her parents possess she’ll be more than fine and it will make for some great arguments when shes about thirteen

Thank you one and all for your encouragement and support.
TLDG and Clare should be released from hospital today (Sunday) hopefully. It’ll be nice to get our lives back on track.

My blog reading fell off over the holidays, so I’m late to the party, but better late than never. Congratulations Mr. Mayor, and good work by Janis. Dang socialist medical system!
