Rodney King? The Jena 6? The Duke lacrosse stripper?

What ever happened to these victims of white racism?

Exactly what you thought would happen to them.

“Beat Whitey Night” Update

Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

**From Ol Remus at The Woodpile Report

The investigation into Iowa’s “beat whitey night” is complete. Des Moines police spokeswoman Sgt. Lori Lavorato has been demoted and reassigned, with loss of compensation and privileges. It was she who said on camera it was “possible” the random assaults on whites by roving black gangs at the Iowa State Fair could have been sorta maybe racially motivated. Because non-events can only involve non-persons, her likeness has probably been removed from precinct newletters. Notice also the beatings have been recast as “fights”, apparently somebody may have tried to defend themselves. Here’s the good news: the not-beatings are surely at an end. The only real troublemaker has been identified and punished. Iowans can go back to sleep.

**Phew – thank goodness this terrible event never really happened

Martin Loofah King

Friday, August 6th, 2010

Ah yes, it was August 28, 1963 at the Lincoln Memorial when Martin Loofah King made his famous “I Have a Clean…” speech. The Mayor remembers it well…

I have a clean that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: “We want these body parts to be hygienic, spotless and washed.”

I have a clean that one day on the red hills of Georgia, the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the bathtub of brotherhood.

I have a clean that one day even the state of Mississippi, a state sweltering and rather smelly, stinking with the heat of body odour, will be transformed into a giant sparkling, unspotted shower.

I have a clean that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not have to bathe in a large garbage can.

And then Martin Loofah went on, with his voice trembling, “Iiiiiiiiiiiiiii have a clean!”

That speech changed American politics forever.

Personally, The Mayor would have thrown in a line or two about how we shouldn’t be judged by the colour of our skin but by the content of our character, but el Loofah was really into cleanliness and never could quite let it go, I suppose.

The Maze only has three levels and it seems simple enough, but it’s actually harder than you think.

Let The Mayor know how you did.

Perps In NY Charged With Hate Crimes – Perps Race Unknown

Thursday, April 15th, 2010

Writing for CBS, Pablo Guzman reports that a series of attacks against elderly Asian women has finally come to an end:

Two young girls and a young boy were in police custody Saturday morning, under arrest in a series of hate crimes targeting Asian women on the Lower East Side.

Police were looking for three girls in particular, because they were the ones, the victims said, who actually carried out the attacks, while two young men, police said, were the lookouts.

A video police released earlier Friday was the break in the case: yes, someone who recognized the teenagers contacted police, and that someone were the parents.

Earlier Friday evening, the parents of a 15-year-old girl, a 12-year-old girl and a 15-year-old boy brought their children to the 7th Precinct and will let justice take over.

Their kids, because of their ages, will be charged in family court Saturday morning.

And because the targets were all older and Asian, the attacks were being categorized as hate crimes.

Police said the assaults on the women took place over the last 10 days within a nine-block area right near the Williamsburg Bridge.

The group was captured by surveillance cameras at 1:20 a.m. at the location of the first attack, in the Gompers Houses at 90 Pitt St. The victim in that first assault on March 31 was a 50-year-old Asian woman.

Later the same day, at 9:20 p.m., police said a 60-year-old Asian woman was assaulted at the Baruch Houses, in the back of 577 FDR.

According to police, a 71-year-old Asian woman was then assaulted opposite 120 Baruch Drive, also at the Baruch Houses. And so was the next attack, on a 66-year-old Asian woman at 95 Baruch Drive.

The last attack, according to police, was on Monday in front of 247 Broadway at 11 p.m. The victim was a 68-year-old Asian woman.

I wish there was some way the reporter could identify what race the young men and women who assaulted the elderly Asian women are? Considering what happened was a hate crime, I would think it important that the race of the perps be identified. I suppose in Obama’s post-racial America, there’s no need for that any more. Yet, when I read articles written in major publications like CBS news online, describing the Tea Party movement – and the Tea Party members haven’t committed ANY crime – they ALWAYS seem to mention how RACIST the WHITE Tea Party movement is?

Could it be it was Tea Party members that assaulted these lederly Asian women? Oh right, the race of the perps wasn’t identified. Still though, I find it curious that the reporter was good enough to tell us – 8 times - it was elderly ASIAN women that were attacked, yet fails to mention the race of the attackers themselves.

I guess without knowing the race of the attackers we should just assume they were white. Because any time I have read about attacks like this and the perps were white, the reporters in question seem to have no trouble telling us they were white. Hmmmmm.

I just know I’m going to stay up all night mulling this little mystery over.

Is a real cookout worse than a fake Klan rally?

Remember the Compton Cookout? It appears that there wasn’t enough attention brought to it as it is. That’s why the discovery at a noose at UC San Diego’s campus library was so distressing. Here’s the Los Angeles Times, February 27:

A UC San Diego student admitted Friday to hanging a rope noose from a campus library bookcase in an act that triggered more protests at a school already roiled by other recent racially charged incidents.

Angry students responded to the incident by storming and occupying the office of UC San Diego Chancellor Marye Anne Fox. The sit-in continued for about six hours Friday and ended without arrests, and a sympathy protest at UCLA lasted about an hour, officials said.

UC San Diego police confirmed that the student contacted them Friday morning and acknowledged responsibility for placing the noose the night before on a lamp fixture atop a seventh-floor bookcase in the campus’ main library. Police did not release the woman’s name or race or provide any information about a motive.

The Los Angeles Times, May 2:

The UC San Diego student reportedly responsible for hanging a noose last week in a campus library issued a public, but anonymous, apology Monday and said she had no racist motivation.

“As a minority student who sympathizes with the students that have been affected by the recent issues on campus, I am distraught to know that I have unintentionally added to their pain,” the student wrote. She was suspended Friday and remains under investigation for a possible hate crime.

The Vice Guide To Liberia – 1 of 8

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

Through Ol Remus’ website, I stumbled upon a series of videos entitled, “The Vice Guide To Liberia”. I thought I knew a few things about Liberia, but after watching just one episode, it turns out I knew absolutely nothing. For instance, I never knew that Liberia was such an utterly disgraceful mess of a country, and perhaps the most terrifying place on the whole planet.

The parrallels to Haiti will astonish you, when it comes right down to it there are not many differences.

These video will upset you. They are hard to watch, but you won’t turn away. This is video 1 of 8. I’ll run one part each day, Monday to Friday, until they are done.

Here is how the first part of the video as described by the producers of The Vice Guide to Liberia:

Welcome to The Vice Guide to Liberia. In this eight-part series, VBS travels to West Africa to rummage through the messy remains of a country ravaged by 14 years of civil war. Despite the United Nation’s eventual intervention, most of Liberia’s young people continue to live in abject poverty, surrounded by filth, drug addiction, and teenage prostitution. The former child soldiers who were forced into war have been left to fend for themselves, the murderous warlords who once led them in cannibalistic rampages have taken up as so-called community leaders, and new militias are lying in wait for the opportunity to reclaim their country from a government they rightly mistrust. America’s one and only foray into African colonialism is keeping a very uneasy peace indeed. In Part 1, Vice’s own Shane Smith provides a brief history lesson and some essential context for understanding what caused Liberia’s civil war and how things got so bad. Liberia was originally planned and founded as a homeland for former slaves back in 1821. But fast forward a bunch of years and a military coup and you find the First Liberian Civil War in 1989: yet another third-world regime change in which the US-backed opposition, led by Charles Taylor, overthrows a government unfriendly to US interests. Once in power, Taylor’s corrupt, dysfunctional government quickly finds itself under attack by local warlords, leading to the Second Liberian Civil War ten years later. From there things go from bad to total shit.
